Hey! You found us! Welcome to our little corner of the Web. We're Paul, Cathy, Hannah, & Isaac Unger. This site is designed to let you know about our lives and work in the Solomon Islands (view map).

We joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2000 and were assigned to work as translation advisors with speakers of the Lengo language in the Solomon Islands. We completed our linguistic training in Canada and came to the Solomons in late 2001. In the Solomons we're part of SITAG (Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group) under the sponsorship of SICA (Solomon Islands Christian Association). Confused yet? So were we when we first came! But life in the Solomons is based largely on relationships, and we had many 'ready-made' when we arrived.

We move frequently between Honiara (the nation's capital) and Aola, a village of some 1000 people on the north east coast of Guadalcanal (view map). The trip takes 3-4 hours in a motor canoe, depending on the state of the sea. At this point in the program we're working towards getting settled in Aola and learning Lengo. According to Lengo speakers it's an "easy" language to learn . . . we hope that holds true for us!

In time we'll be training Solomon Islanders in the various aspects of Bible translation, literacy, linguistics and other Scripture use activities, and providing technical assistance in these areas. The goal is the publication of the Scriptures in Lengo, beginning with the New Testament. If you're one who prays, please remember uswe can use it!
